Yet another election that is too close to call….

I think that there is a fundamental technological reason why elections are becoming really close.  Suppose you have two candidates, A and B.  Both of them what to shift their positions so that they get more votes, but they don’t want to shift there positions too much in order to keep their base support.  The result of which is that both A and B are very carefully crafting their positions so that they get 50%+1 of the vote.

The trouble is that with modern election techniques, both A and B are going to be very good at getting their message out and changing their messages so that they just get barely enough votes to win.  The result of all of these, is that you end up with either A or B just barely getting enough votes to win, and you end up with these razor thin elections.
